Remedies for Pain in legs

  • 2 teaspoon of salt and 2 pudina leaves in warm water. Keep feet in that water

Remedies for Cracked legs

  • Mehandi with lemon juice Apply on feet, wash after 20 mins
  • Paste made of Neem and Tumeric can be apply on feet

Effective remedies for Fever with simple herbs.

Apart from the information we share from our group, We have gone little deeper into ancient siddha, ayurveda and unnai script and shared few remedies.

  1. Eating of cumin seeds with jaggery cures the fever
  2. 20 to 40 grams of black basil (Krishna Tulsi) leaves juice.
  3. Drinking of 30 to 80 grams decoction made with the roots of holy black basil (krishna tulsi) plant two times in a day can helps to cure not only common fever but also cures all types of fever
  4. Eating of 3 Datura (Ummetha) seeds three times in a day helps to cure fever. Datura is the very good home remedy for fever.
  5. Boiling root powder in water to prepare a concentrate (1 cup reduced to ½) could be taken, with a little sugar added, daily morning on the empty stomach.
  6. Prepare sharbat by boiling by some tamarind pulp in half liter of milk and adding some dates, cloves, sugar, cardamoms and a very little camphor. It lessens the fever.
  7. Use Peepal leaves as laxative and tonic. They relieve feverish feeling of coolness
  8. The bark of Tamarind acts as an astringent, a tonic and it reduces fever. Use the bark as laxative.
  9. Applying of small mustard seeds oil to the body is helpful for people who are suffering with dengue fever. Usually dengue fever effected people suffering with joint pains and pains in the legs and hands.

Ragi sweet kozhukattai / sweet dumplings

Ingredients:

Ragi flour – 1 cup
Grated coconut – 1/4 cup
Jaggery – 1/2 cup
Elachi powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – 1/4 tsp
Oil – 1 tblspoon

Method:

Dry roast ragi flour for 2 to 3 minutes on medium flame and set it aside.
Take jaggery in a pan and add water to it.
Once jaggery is completely melted filter it.
Now pour this jaggery syrup in a pan and bring it to boil . Add salt and oil.Then add ragi flour, grated coconut, and elachi powder.
Mix everything well until the water is completely absorbed. Then switch off the flame. Let it cool for 5 mins.
Now take small ball from the dough and press them into dumplings with hands.
Steam the dumplings in idli cooker for 15 mins.

Preparing dumplings this way will take less time and can be prepared in 15 mins.

All types of millets flour can be used. One point is water should be added according to the millets used.

Foxtail/Thinai paniyaram (sweet pancakes)

Ingredients:
Foxtail millet/Thinai – 1/2 cup
Rice flour – 1 tablespoon
Wheat flour – 1 1/2 tablespoon
Jaggery – 1/2/cup powdered
Grated coconut – 1/4 cup
Salt – as required
Cardamom – 1
Ghee/oil to fry

Method:
Wash and soak the millet for 2 hrs.
Add it to a blender with very little water and grind it to a smooth paste.

Transfer it to a bowl and add powdered jaggery, rice flour, wheat flour, coconut, salt and powdered cardamom seeds.

Mix everything well and set aside for 15 mins. Heat the paniyaram pan, pour oil/ghee in each mould and pour the batter. Cook well. Flip and add more oil/ghee and cook till it turns golden brown.

Foxtail Millet/Thinai Halwa

Ingredients:

Foxtail Millet – 1 cup
Milk – 2 cup
Palm sugar – 3/4 cup
Ghee – 5 tablespoon
Elachi powder – a pinch
Water

Method:
Wash and soak millet in water for 2 hours.

Add drained millet with little water to a mixer and blend it to a smooth batter. Keep it aside.
Take a pan add ghee and melt it.
Add the ground batter and cook on a medium flame. Keep stirring continuously.
Cook till it becomes crumble. It takes around 10 mins. Then add milk to the cooked mixture and keep on mashing it.
When the milk evaporates, add palm sugar and mix well.Cook till the halwa begins to leave the sides of the pan.Add little ghee and mix everything well.
Stir and mash the halwa well to get a smooth halwa.
Heat ghee in a pan add cashew kismis fry it till golden color and pour it over the halwa. Serve warm.

Foxtail millet/Thinai Pongal

Ingredients:

Thinai – 3/4 cup
Moong dal – 1/4 cup
Jaggery – 1/2 cup
Ghee
Cashew Nut and kismis
Elachi powder

Method:
Dry roast the moong dal till nice aroma comes out. Set it aside and allow it to cool.
Dry roast the foxtail millet for 5 mins and allow it to cool.
Mix both and wash it for 2 to 3 times.then soak it for 15 mins.
Take a cooker add this mixture and pour 31/2 cup water and cook for 1 whistle.
Simmer it for 10 mins.

Meanwhile take jaggery in a pan add water and melt it. Then strain it.

Open the cooker add the jaggery syrup and little ghee mix everything well.Add elachi powder too.

Heat ghee in a small pan. Add cashew nuts and kismis. Saute till it becomes golden color. Then add it to the cooked pongal and mix well.

Transfer it to a bowl and serve hot.

  • 2 or 3 times a day, Drink a cup of warm water with few drops of honey or lemon. This soothes the symptoms and at the same time loosens the phlegm.
  • Once a day prepare a decoction by boiling a 1 tsp of fenugreek seeds in ½ of warm water. Continue boiling the seeds, till the water reduces to one third of its original quantity. Then, add a 1 tsp fresh ginger juice to this concoction, along with a few drops of honey, just to make it more palatable
  • Consume 3 to 4 tsp of the mix, that is  equal amounts of honey and onion juice daily till the flu lasts.
  • Mix a 1 tsp turmeric powder in a glass of warm nati milk. This helps strengthen the liver and alleviates the symptoms of flu. Daily 2 to 3 times a day.
  • Ginger tea has an excellent effect on the body and helps alleviate the symptoms of the flu. Use 2 to 3 pieces of ginger to prepare this tea.

  • Take one teaspoonful of ginger powder and one teaspoonful of licorice powder. Add half a liter of water and boil the mixture till it reduces to one fourth (about 125 ml.). Strain it and drink it warm. Adding a teaspoonful of honey or one gram of common salt is beneficial and a good Ayurveda remedy for asthma.

  1. Mixture of dried ginger powder + pepper + long pepper taken in equal quantities. The powder of these three ingredients have anti-pyretic qualities and are effective in dealing with fever accompanied with bronchitis. They also tone up the metabolism of the patient.
    • Dose: quarter teaspoon three times a day with honey.
  2. Onion known as a best home remedy for centuries in bronchitis. It is said to possess expectorant properties. It liquefies phlegm and prevents its further formation.
    • Dose: ½ tsp of raw onion juice first thing in the morning will be beneficial in such cases.
  3. Amukiran Kilangu or Ashwagandha known as American and Siberian ginseng are especially good for the lungs. They clear bronchial passages and reduce inflammation. Important: Do not use American ginseng if you have high blood pressure or any other heart problem.
  4. A soup prepared from drumstick leaves is also highly beneficial in the treatment of bronchitis. This soup is prepared by adding a handful of leaves to 150 ml. of water which has been heated to a boiling point. The water is allowed to boil further for five minutes. It should then be removed from fire and allowed to cool. A little salt, pepper and lime juice may be added to this soup. This drink should be taken first thing every morning.

Horse Gram Idli (Kollu Idli)

Ingredients:

Rice Rawa : 4 cups
Horse Gram : 1 glass
Urad dal : 1/2 glass

Method:

Soak and grind the urad dal the previous day and allow it to ferment.
Soak rice rawa and horse gram overnight.
Grind the horse gram in the morning till it reaches the fluffy consistency.
Add rice rawa and fermented urad dal batter to this and steam it like idlis.

Soft idlis for our breakfast are ready to be served with chutney or idli powder.
