We have ears, tongue and eyes among gnanendriyas most powerful knowledge providers with which there will be lot of internal disturbances.

We should not listen through “EARS”, which is not related to us or for which we are neither responsible nor answerable. Unnecessary inflow of information from this indriya generates unwarranted garbage in our astral body. This should therefore be controlled.

Next gnanendriya is “TONGUE”. Through this we become slave to taste and take unnecessary food. This in one way results in indigestion and also other diseases like diabetics. So we should have control on tongue.

Further powerful and dangerous gnanendriya is “EYES”. No doubt through this indriya we see world around us, but we also see unwanted items and create unwarranted desires. So friends eyes, tongue and ear are most dangerous gnanendriyas which require control.

Now, there is another karmendriya which is also equally dangerous. It is speech generated through tongue. Through “TALK” we either to good deeds or bad deeds. So we should be careful with this karmendriya also.
We have a commander-in-chief of indriyas. He is “MIND” . If one can control this, he can even become Almighty. Entire spiritual practices are basically aimed at controlling mind. People generally think that “indriya nigraha” (control of indriyas) is important sadhana. But it is not so. What is required is realisation

oriented attitude towards subject matter of indriyas. In Bhagavad Geeta in second chapter, Lord emphasized that any interest on subject matter of five elements (sound, touch, form, taste and smell are subject matters) converts interest as desire. If desire is fulfilled then thought for repetition is generated. If desire is not fulfilled angry will raise. With angry, person looses senses and losses control on himself. So realization oriented knowledge referred above should help us in removing interest on subject matter of five elements. To do this, we should divert our interest on some better aspects. Like doing “NAMA SMARANA ” or uttering “MANTRA” or doing meditation. Let our sadhana start on any of these points.
Pranamams.

“JEERNAM JEERNAM VATAPI JEERNAM”

Behind every practice our ancestors, there was a reason . Here is once such age-old practice which was followed after having meals.

“JEERNAM JEERNAM VATAPI JEERNAM”

These lines are said by our parents and forefathers when a child finishes his food. Have you ever known the reason and meaning behind its origin? Today, let’s learn and share and start following these once again.

In olden days, when people used to travel through forest areas, two demons Ilvakul and Vatapi used to mesmerize them with their magical words saying there is a feast going on in forest, so please come and attend it.

Vatapi mean while turns himself as a goat and llvakul cooks and serves to people . After people finished their feast, llvakul used to call Vatapi and Vatapi used to come out tearing their stomach and both demons fed on dead ppl. Agastya Rushi started thinking, why people traveling through the forest couldnt return back .So he decided to go into the forest in disguise of common man to know what is happening in the forest. The saint came across Vatapi n llvakul .They repeated the same story of Vatapi turning into goat .This time Vatapi could not come out who entered Agastya rushi’s stomach, as after having the feast rubbing his stomach he uttered Jeernam jeernam Vatapi jeernam. This means how much ever you eat and if it is a mountain is in your stomach,it gets digested.

Later, llvakul was vanished into dust. So,this is the reason why our elders used to say those lines after feeding kids.Even today, few families follow them. It is believed a simple act like this, children are cured and freed from stomach ailments, at least.

My experience with Balamrit.

image

At our holistic parenting WhatsApp group there is one topic that is constantly bothering our fellow parents is to improve immunity. I could think nothing more than Balamrit that saved by child. It is a nice memory I could recall. It’s was my 9 months of motherhood journey to welcome my second baby Ojas. I nurtured myself well with all the nutrients, vitamins and so on, till 7 the month, but God has his own plans. Scanning report showed fetus isn’t receiving enough blood circulation through mother. Despite repeated scans I’am helpless. I was suggested to go for emergency C-section, Don’t know why I did, but I just denied. I took it as a challenge to wait till 9 month to let baby fight with his immune system. Finally the day approached when the baby has to enter the world. My happiness reams no boundaries glancing at my Angel.

Two days later, his blood reports showed low platelets for which the pediatric suggested all possible tests. Only option I was given was Bone marrow. I was totally disturbed at the sight of my baby in ICU. Paediatric explained its due to mother’s womb a virus entered the baby which was the reason for his low platelets. Requested the Hospital staff to discharge my baby though Doctors denied thinking it would be risky. I was sure our family home-remedies have deeper meaning. I prepared balamrit, a herbal mix we used to give for new born usually prepared by granny at home, I gave it to my new born daily and followed regular oil bath, kept the house clean and always played various Vedic chants at home all the time with sincere prayer. Touch wood as days passed by and routine check-ups showed drastic increase in his platelets and health. The first one year was immense struggle for a mother saving a baby. Now he’s 2 yrs. When I look back now down the line with my happy and healthy toddler the only one thing I should mention is “thanks to balamrit” for being with me in my journey. My purpose of sharing this amazing real life experience is to create awareness and introduced Balamrit to all the new mothers and get benefited of our ancient knowledge.

Balamrit is a traditional mixture of certain herbs (Almond, Dry Dates, Nutmeg, Myrica Nagi, Gum Arabic, Terminalia chebula, Terminalia Belirica, Indiancscrew tree, Long pepper, Sweetflag, Licorice, Turmeric, Dryginger, Ashwagandha, Indian Atees, Embilia and Conessi Bark) which are used and given for 3 years to child to improve his immunity. They are very effective and individual herbs in it tend to cover major disorders of the child from stomach ache, teething, decentry to fevers to flatulence and so on. We used to take some breast milk [first six months] or water [after six months]. Rub each of this herbs once or twice. Once all herbs are rubbed, mix the blend with a drop of honey.

I start with spiritual prayers to pass on the healing energy. It is a time consuming process along with lot of strenuous efforts, the preparation involves choosing of right herbs along with their proportion consistency of mixing, hand pounding, grinding and finally filtering the waste out to make the smooth powder, nearly 25 gms get wasted in125 gms. The whole ultimate strenuous procedure is to help the child or infant swallow it smoothly without any difficulty.

At request of many parents, while I make for my children, I also make extra to share it the requested parents. Each pocket is of 100 gms, and it costs Rs.1470.

Market available ready-made ones may not have shell life for longer duration and not sure of if whole ingredients are used in its preparation. When we make it at home the cost is cheaper by 25% when compared with market.
